LoFi girl has disappeared and a mysterious countdown has begun

When LoFi Girl’s YouTube stream last made headlines, it was because false copyright claims crashed the stream, ending two years, four months and two weeks of nonstop streaming of enjoyable downtempo “beats to learn.”

This week, however, LoFi Girl made headlines for a different reason: After apparently receiving a message via a blue Morse code in one of the distant windows behind her, the stream’s mascot, Jade, mysteriously disappeared. That’s right: LoFi Girl now has lore โ€” and it’s kind of glorious. (Apparently Jade also finally took a break from studying to take a nap earlier this month.)

With the titular LoFi girl sort of out of the picture, the stream slowly began to zoom in on the distant blue window over the next 24 hours. At press time, it’s apparently stopped doing that, having settled on a new room – this one is decidedly more cluttered and masculine, according to fans in chat – but the same familiar headphones rest on the desk.

Meanwhile, fans who had hashed the Morse code message discovered that they were being redirected to a new website, lofiworld.com. Clicking a button on the website that says “Start” takes users to another YouTube stream playing ambient music in another bedroom (with an aquarium! and Gundam models! and a GameCube!), in with a clock on the wall counting down . About 30 minutes remain at press time; We’ll update you when we know exactly what’s going on.

So there you have it: A nice relaxing little mystery to start your day. Let’s all tune in together.
