Local Family Brings Coyote Pup Home After Mistaking Him For A Lost Dog – Boston News, Weather, Sports

(WHDH) – A family on Cape Cod recently brought home a coyote pup after mistaking the animal for a lost dog, according to the wildlife agency.
“The Eastern Coyote pup was separated from its family last week and found wandering and distressed on the side of a busy road,” the Cape Wildlife Center said in a Facebook post. “He was then accidentally brought home by a local family after they misidentified him as a lost puppy.”
After realizing their mix-up, the family called CWC officials for help. State health officials later determined that there was no potential risk of exposure to rabies.
The coyote pup will soon be introduced to a foster sibling who recently arrived at Rhode Island’s Wildlife Clinic.
“Once both puppies have received their vaccinations, they will be raised together and given a chance to grow and learn natural behaviors in our large outdoor cages,” the CWC added. “We’re working hard to give them as much natural parenting as possible and will work to replicate the essential behaviors and skills they learn from mom and dad.”
The CWC warned the public to beware of coyotes because they are susceptible to the rabies virus, which is deadly to all mammals, including humans.
