Liverpool: Thierry Henry calls out Mo Salah over Real Madrid comments | Soccer

The Egyptian had added a little more spice to Saturday night’s Champions League final after saying he would prefer to face Real over Manchester City because he wanted to avenge their defeat in Kyiv four years ago.
“We still have scores to settle,” he tweeted after Spain’s dramatic comeback against City in the semi-finals, having already made it very clear in an interview following Liverpool’s own win against Villarreal that he was itching for revenge.
That night in Kyiv in 2018 was particularly painful for Salah when he was sent off with a dislocated shoulder after a naughty tackle by Sergio Ramos just 30 minutes into the game.
Manager Jurgen Klopp also weighed in on the revenge storyline, saying: “It’s normal that Mo wants to make things right. We haven’t forgotten what happened back then, but it’s been a while and we have so many reasons that we should give our all tomorrow night. That may be one reason, but it’s not the only one.”
Unfortunately for Liverpool, history repeated itself at the Stade de France as Real Madrid emerged 1-0 victors.
The Spanish champions were indebted to goalkeeper – and Man of the Match – Thibaut Courtois, who made a number of notable saves, most notably putting two particularly superb stops away from Sadio Mane and Salah.
Henry was afterwards full of praise for Real Madrid and their goalkeeper, although he felt Salah should have kept his feelings to himself before the game and saved his comments about revenge until after the game had been won.
Speaking to CBS Sports, he explained, “I always say something, I don’t talk before a final.
“Beat Real Madrid, then talk and say ‘It was revenge’ and all that. If you talk before a final, you have to win it.”
He continued: “We’ve said it so many times, it’s about getting the ball to the back of the net. she [Madrid] have a shot on target and they score.
“Liverpool had a lot. But they met Thibaut Courtois. Remember what I said in the semifinals, people don’t give him the credit he deserves.
“He’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world and better than Ederson. And he showed it tonight.”
