Robert Firmino says he would love to stay at Liverpool despite speculation linking him with a move from Anfield.
Firmino, 30, has just one year left on his contract and has become a support player this season, having made just 20 Premier League appearances.
A lack of playing time reportedly frustrated the Brazilian as he sought a fresh start to restart his career while Liverpool were presumably thinking of capitalizing on the striker.
However, in conversation with TNT Sport, the Brazilian, interrupted talk of a departure and described Liverpool as a “great club”.
He said: “I am very happy here. I thank God that I’m playing for a great club with great players and winning trophies here. And my will is to stay.
“My wish is to stay here. i want to be here i am happy here That’s all I can say, I want to stay.”
Firmino was one of Liverpool’s key players under Jurgen Klopp and was part of a memorable front three alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
In 326 games for the Reds he has scored 98 goals while helping the Merseyside club win four major trophies.
However, the additions of Diogo Jota and Luiz Diaz over the past two years have seen Firmino slide down the pecking order.
With Mane and Salah’s contracts also due to expire next year, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool are interested in putting forward new deals for all three players.
Jurgen Klopp has been praised for building Liverpool’s squad but the German has found it difficult to keep all of his players happy.
Divock Origi is expected to join AC Milan while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also allowed to leave this summer.
Meanwhile, the future of Takumi Minamino is in the stars as the Japan international regularly fails to make the Liverpool bench.
