Liverpool have rejected Bayern Munich’s first transfer offer for Sadio Mane, turning down a £25m package from the German champions.

Mane is expected to end his six-year association with Liverpool after opting out of signing a contract extension at Anfield.

The Senegalese star has been a mainstay at Liverpool’s side since his £34million move from Southampton in 2016, scoring 120 goals in 269 games and helping the Reds win the Premier League and Champions League.

Following Liverpool’s most recent Champions League final loss to Real Madrid, Mane has reportedly decided to leave the club and is pushing for a move to Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga giants are also keen to secure his services as Robert Lewandowski is close to a transfer to Barcelona but they must return with an improved offer after their opening bid was rejected.

According to The Times, a package consisting of an initial fee of £21m – plus £4m for add-ons – has been rejected by Liverpool, who know the value of a player regarded as one of the Premier League’s best.

Ahead of Senegal’s World Cup qualifier against Benin earlier this week, Mane fueled speculation he was leaving Liverpool by insisting he would be swayed by the wishes of his compatriots.

He said: “Like everyone else, I’m on social media and seeing the comments. Don’t 60-70% of Senegalese want me to leave Liverpool? I will do what you want.

‘We’ll see soon! Don’t be in a hurry because we’ll see this together. The future will show us.’

But the Liverpool ace backtracked after scoring a hat-trick that made him Senegal’s all-time leading scorer and said his comments should have been taken with caution.

“I spoke with a bit of humor yesterday while joking and it was everywhere,” Mane said.

“I think we’ll stop here. Liverpool is a club I respect a lot. The fans adopted me from day one. As for the future, we’ll see.”
