Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Fabinho’s injury at Villa Park is a ‘major blow’ for his team.

The Reds won 2-1 at Aston Villa on Tuesday night to put themselves back at the top of the Premier League with Manchester City on points.

However, Liverpool’s victory was marred by a first-half injury to Fabinho, who had to be replaced by Jordan Henderson.

After an encounter with Philippe Coutinho, Fabinho went down and appeared to cling to a hamstring as he limp off the pitch.

After the game, Klopp hinted he didn’t know the extent of the injury but admitted the Brazilian’s loss in the run-in could have implications for his side.

He said on Sky Sports: “It’s a massive problem. This is a heavy blow for us. I don’t know (how bad), hopefully not that bad, but I don’t know.’

Fabinho’s injury fears come at a crucial time for Liverpool with Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Meanwhile, league games against Southampton and Wolves are set to follow before the Champions League final against Real Madrid in Paris.

After the weekend’s draw with Tottenham, Liverpool were keen to close the gap with City.

And Klopp was pleased with his side’s reaction at Villa Park after the home side took an early lead through Douglas Luiz.

He added: “Massive result. Massive performance. After all the games we’ve played After a bad start where Aston Villa did everything that hurt us.

“The boys were outstanding. We had to dig deep. Really proud of the boys.’
