Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been sidelined for several weeks with a hamstring injury. Jurgen Klopp revealed that.

The Reds meet Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday, albeit without the defender.

Alexander-Arnold was also called up in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the friendlies against Switzerland and Côte d’Ivoire later this month but will no longer be working with the Three Lions.

“Trent is out with a hamstring so he will be out for England too. Not good news, we’ll see how long it lasts.’

When pressed on whether the defender will be sidelined for weeks, Klopp replied: “Yes.”

Liverpool have reduced the gap to leaders Manchester City to just one point after beating Arsenal 2-0 on Wednesday night.

But the FA Cup tie against Forest, who have already knocked Arsenal and Leicester City out of contention this season, is the focus for Klopp.

Regarding the replacement of Alexander-Arnold, Klopp said: “[It’s] difficult, now we will see how long it will take, but of course it is… replacing Trent is difficult, but possible.

“We’ve always done it. We have Millie when he’s not sick anymore, we obviously have Joe and theoretically we can switch systems too, so we have things like that.

“We have a couple of options. You’re right, [he’s] very influential. But if you look at the past, when Millie had to step in, he did incredibly well. Unbelievable good.

“He just has to be available, then that’s fine. But at the moment I don’t know what we’re going to do or how Millie will be on Sunday.

“If not, then maybe we have a very young solution that’s fine too, or so is Joey. We’ll take a look.

“The way he’s playing, I don’t know of any player in the world who plays like Trent, to be honest. It would be difficult to find a one-for-one replacement.”
