Lauren Cranston found guilty on $105M Plutus payroll

The Crown argued in court that Lauren Cranston was involved in manual tasks such as processing payroll, including failing to transfer the correct PAYG and GST to the ATO.
Prosecutors said any suggestion that she knew nothing was a gross understatement given she attended meetings about the program and used tens of thousands of Plutus dollars on a property in Picton.

Defense attorney Troy Anderson, SC, said a reasonable hypothesis consistent with innocence is that his client “is doing her job” and believes she is paying adequate taxes based on the orders of Menon and her brother. He said she was not involved in any conspiracy, if there was one.
Willmott is said to have been involved in running the first second-tier company, Keystone, from the start. His attorney, Luke Brasch, argued that his client was not involved in either conspiracy and if they existed he was unaware of them.
The Cranston siblings are the children of former ATO Deputy Commissioner Michael Cranston, who the jury was told was not charged with any wrongdoing.
