A 60-year-old man was arrested early Monday after he allegedly broke into his tenant’s home and chased him with a sledgehammer.
According to the probable cause statement, officers responded to the Millcreek home around 4:30 a.m. Monday because of an ongoing burglary. They found the man outside the tenant’s residence with a sledgehammer, after he “broke down the door”.
The tenant told police the man “chased him through his house” with a weapon shortly before officers arrived. When the man was able to hit the street, his landlord allegedly threw a sledgehammer at him.
The arresting officer wrote in the statement that the homeowner “smelt of alcohol” from his people. The man also shouted at several correctional officers while incarcerated at the Salt Lake County Jail, saying “he’s going to make his sons chase us and kill us.”
The man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and assault, along with two misdemeanors.
