Kylian Mbappe says his dream of playing for Real Madrid is ‘never over’ despite turning down the Spanish champions to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain after over a year of speculation.

The 23 year old The world champion has signed deals with both clubs over the past few weeks but ultimately decided to remain at his current club after consulting figures such as current French President Emmanuel Macron and his predecessor Nicolas Sarkozy about his future.

Real Madrid fell through with a late bid to sign the forward last summer but were confident of securing his services on a free transfer this summer and were willing to offer a sign-up fee and weekly wages that would have made Mbappe the highest-paid footballer in the world World.

But PSG made a similarly stunning offer and Mbappe finally put pen to paper at the weekend, committing his future to the club, who paid just under €200m for his services to AS Monaco from 2018 to 2025.

Despite appearing to have burned his bridges with Los Blancos and France team-mate Karim Benzema taking to Instagram to express his displeasure at Mbappe’s decision, Mbappe insists he could still move to the Spanish capital in the future.

‘[The chance of moving to Real Madrid is] never over, never over,” Mbappe told the BBC. “The only thing is that I have now signed a contract for three more years. You never know what may happen in the future. I give up thinking about the future, I only think about the present and the present is that I have signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain for three more years.

“I spoke to the President of Real Madrid because I have a lot of respect for him and the club. I think it was important to say in person that I wasn’t going. To be a great player [you have] And to be honest everything was great and good because we have a good relationship.

Ultimately, Mbappe cites his commitment to his nation as the reason for his decision to stay at PSG.

“Leaving my country is not the right thing,” he said. “It has a sentimental aspect. it’s my country The current project has also changed. This is what made me stay here because I believe my story isn’t over yet. That applies to me collectively and individually. I think there are many more wonderful chapters to write.”
