Ky. The First Lady, partner of the Fayette Co. about a toy drive to help children affected by tornadoes

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56/ WKYT) – You can help bring Christmas to children affected by the weekend tornadoes.

Terrifying tornadoes hit just weeks before Christmas, leaving many families without presents for their children.

British First Lady Beshear is opening the Western Kentucky Toy Drive. Officials are collecting toys, books, electronics and $25 MasterCard or Visa gift cards for children in the hardest-hit areas.

“There are children around the world who live in apartment buildings or locations without chimneys and Santa will find a way,” the first lady said.

In Western Kentucky, some homes have no chimneys, while several families are left without homes after tornadoes swept through the area.

“I don’t think these paintings will do nearly the damage justice. The amount of damage this tornado caused and the type of damage could not be determined. I know that people are hurting,” said First Lady Beshear.

You can give toys to children 18 years of age and older.

In Lexington, you can drop off your toys at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Kathy Witt said the department was honored to be partnering with the first lady.

Sheriff Witt said: “We live in a very caring community. “When our citizens hear there is a need, whether it is in our community, in our commonwealth or in our country, for that matter, they are challenged. awake.”

The toy race will run from Tuesday to December 18.

First Lady Beshear said: “No gift is too small or too big.

In Lexington, donations will be accepted 24 hours a day Tuesday through Saturday at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at 150 N. Limestone.

“This will be a long process. It doesn’t end next week. It doesn’t end at Christmas. Sheriff Witt said. “We live in a very caring community and when we hear that there is a need, whether it is in our community or in our commonwealth or our country, for there, they will face the challenge.”

You can also deposit donations at Pieratt locations at 110 Mt. Tabor Rd. and 125 E. Reynolds Rd. Drop-off will be accepted from 9am to 6pm Monday-Saturday and noon-5pm Sunday.
