The donut shop calls the action “donut deflation.”

For the week of April 13, the price is $4.11 for a dozen.

The retail price for a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts is $17.49. Prices vary by location.

Krispy Kreme said the promotional price will be based on the national average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the United States on Monday earlier in the week.

The donut deflation promotion is only available on Wednesdays.

Customers are encouraged to show up early to the store as Krispy Kreme has been known to run out of donuts when it runs these promotions.

One person can only purchase up to two dozen Original Glazed Donuts at participating stores through drive-thru or pickup.

Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme Chief Marketing Officer, said, “A dozen Original Glazed Donuts for the price of a gallon of gas will help our fans make midweek a little sweeter for their friends and family.”

Relief at the pump

To remedy the situation nationally, President Biden announced that he would release an average of 1 million barrels of oil per day from strategic reserves.

State politicians are also trying to relieve the gas pump.

New York is currently working on legislation to temporarily suspend the tax on gas, and Georgia, Maryland and Connecticut
have already enacted such laws.

In Georgia, the suspension lasts through May 31 and will defer approximately $0.29 per gallon tax on regular fuel and $0.32 per gallon tax on diesel.

Maryland signed a $0.37 gas tax stay in early March.

It was just a 30-day suspension, which expires on Saturday April 16th.

In late March, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont signed an emergency bill to temporarily suspend a $0.25 gas tax through June 30.

After the law was signed, Governor Lamont forwarded it social media: “I’m proud that it received unanimous bipartisan support and moved quickly to give people some relief at the pump.”
