Prince Harry claims his father the royal was jealous of both his wife Meghan Markle and sister-in-law Kate Middleton.

He claims Charles said he had “no money left over” to support him and his wife financially because he feared the “novel and gorgeous” American actress would steal his limelight.

In his explosive new memoir, Spare, the Duke of Sussex says his father “had experienced it before and had no interest in letting it happen to him again,” in an apparent nod to the late Princess Diana.

Harry’s much-anticipated book is due to be released on Tuesday, but after it was accidentally published early in Spain, a number of journalists managed to snag a copy.

According to the Daily Telegraph, which translated the book, prior to his engagement to Meghan, Harry said his father raised the issue of the actress’ livelihood.

When he asked if she planned to continue working after her marriage and Harry said he didn’t think so, the Duke said his father replied: “Well, my dear son, you already know we have no money left .”

However, after Harry and Meghan’s wedding, the couple received financial support from Charles while they worked for royals, but this stopped when they moved to the US to start a new life.

The book then allegedly claims the then-Prince of Wales admitted difficulties in supporting William and Kate, then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Harry said he questioned his father’s money grievances, but it’s not clear if that was at the time of the conversation or afterwards.

The Duke says he questioned the then-Prince of Wales about his alleged struggles while making “millions from the hugely lucrative” Duchy of Cornwall, reports the Telegraph.

Harry says he believed his father actually feared Meghan had the potential to “dominate the monarchy” and become another Diana for the public and the press – consequently stealing the limelight from Charles and Camilla.

The US publication Page Six, which also received a copy of the book, reports that Harry wrote: “Pa may have feared the rising cost of our upkeep.

“But what he really couldn’t take was someone new dominating the monarchy, grabbing the limelight, someone shiny and new coming in and overshadowing him.”

According to the Telegraph, Harry goes on to say his father was also jealous of the amount of publicity William and Kate received.

Using his brother’s nickname, he says that “Willy” did everything Charles wanted and that “sometimes he didn’t want him to do much” because he and Camilla didn’t like the Cambridges getting too much publicity .”

One example he cites was of the King’s staff making sure Kate wasn’t photographed with a tennis racquet at a public engagement, as “that kind of photo would have pushed Dad and Camilla off every front page.”

The claim is one of many that have made headlines about the royal family and the Sussexes in recent days, as journalists received copies of Harry’s memoir.

One of the most surprising revelations from the book remains the first to be leaked – the claim that William physically assaulted his younger brother in 2019.

Speaking about the confrontation in a new teaser for his ITV interview published on Friday, Harry had described how a “red haze” came over the Prince of Wales during the incident.

“He wanted me to hit him back, but I decided against it,” he tells correspondent Rom Bradby in the short clip.

In the interview, set to air on Sunday, the Duke will also insist he still wants a reconciliation with the royal family but warned there must be some accountability first.

Harry also claims in his book that as a helicopter pilot in Afghanistan he killed 25 people and took them off the board as “pawns”.

He says he was doing cocaine when he was 17 and at the same age lost his virginity behind a “very busy pub” to an unnamed older woman who treated him like a “young stud” and “spanked him”.

The Duke also claims he was confronted with a talking trash can at a party in California in 2016 after taking magic mushrooms.

He says both princes “begged” their father not to marry Camilla, now the queen consort, who he claims “sacrificed” him to improve her public image.
