achieve results. Kim Kardashian offered a candid look at the ups and downs of her weight-loss journey for the 2022 Met Gala.
“So I’m at 118 [pounds] again. I got to 120 [pounds] it tripped me up,” the 42-year-old reality star revealed to her personal trainer during a new episode of Hulu The Kardashianswhich premiered on Thursday, November 10th.
In a confessional, Kim broke down her approach to training to reach her goal weight. “Well, I fit the dress, but I’m not going to stop working out. I’ve got this sauna suit and I put it on and it makes you sweat – even if it’s waterweight it’s going to help,” she explained ahead of the May event.
As the cameras rolled in Season 2, the Skims founder made headlines for her performance in vintage Bob Mackie dress during fashion’s biggest night. “It was this or nothing,” said the TV personality Fashion in the same month and referred to the dress previously worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962. “I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict.”
A month later, Kim slammed critics who questioned her decision to lose 16 pounds in three weeks. “It was just important to me to achieve this goal,” she explained in an interview The New York Times. “I just couldn’t have gone [if I didn’t loss the weight]which wouldn’t have mattered.”
The businesswoman added: “For me it was like, ‘OK, Christian Balle can do it for a film role and that’s acceptable.’ Even Renee Zellweger increased for a role. It’s all the same to me. I didn’t say, ‘Hey everyone, why don’t you guys lose that weight in a little while?’”
At the time, Kim revealed that she had “lost 21 pounds” since preparing for the event in New York. “It taught me a lot about my lifestyle and my health,” she said on the today show about her original weight loss plan. “Since then, I’ve continued to eat very healthily. I’m not trying to lose any more weight, but I have more energy than ever. I cut out so much sugar, a lot of the junk food I ate… I just completely changed my lifestyle.”
The aspiring lawyer also called out claims that she damaged the iconic dress after wearing it. “It was such a process. I showed up on the red carpet in a robe and slippers and put on the dress at the bottom of the carpet and walked up the stairs,” she continued. “I had it on for probably three minutes, four minutes and then I changed at the top of the stairs. Ripley’s [and I] worked so well together. There were handlers and gloves that put it on me.”
In a statement released the same month, Ripley’s addressed the controversy, saying: “Kim Kardashian wearing the ‘Happy Birthday’ dress has been heavily denied, but the fact remains that she in no way inferred the garment in the small crowd worn to the Met Gala.”
