“We created a show called Talkin’ Trash Tuesday, which was one-minute videos about pollution, illegal dumping, tree biking during our Albuquerque cleanup month, but we also ended 30th video on how, What you should do with what’s in your cart, what’s not in your cart, top 10 items in your shopping cart yours,” explains Solid Waste Director Matthew Whelan.

There’s even a video called Super Mateo! It’s a game on Super Mario and it explains how to place the carts before taking out the trash.

“It’s a funny message, but the messages are 100 percent important,” Whelan said. “That’s the most important thing about these videos and we want it to just stay in people’s minds.”

The goal is to educate about trash to keep Albuquerque beautiful. In 2022, they’re also looking to move these projects into bilingualism with Spanish-language videos.

“We will continue to do the work that we have done, but we will expand it even more,” Whelan said.

At the Sparkling Lights Parade 2021, employees can focus more on their work while winning the show’s best.

“We were able to give out 1000 reusable bags because that is one of our other messages that bags are reusable,” says Whelan. “Use your reusable bags.” If you want to watch the video, click here.
