“Keep doing your podcast, it’s cute”

The budding rivalry between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Golden State Warriors added some layers this week. After Dillon Brooks slammed Draymond Green and his game last week, Green responded Wednesday with a crushing takedown from Brooks. The back-and-forth seemed to come at just the right time as Memphis and Golden State clashed on TNT on Thursday.

Despite the continued absences of Ja Morant and Steven Adams, the Grizzlies defeated the Warriors 131-110. At one point in the second quarter, the two shared an odd moment when Brooks converted a layup around Green. After the win, Brooks, flanked by teammates Jaren Jackson Jr., Tyus Jones and Xavier Tillman, spoke to TNT’s Jared Greenberg and had a few words for Green.

“That’s what I do, I talk,” Brooks said of his message to Green. “I told him keep the mic. keep the mic He’s better on the mic than Tire. Keep up his podcast. Keep blogging. Keeps doing his thing off the pitch. It’s cute, he enjoys it.”

As Brooks’ interview ended, he had one final message for Green to further stoke the flames of this rivalry.

“You should give Draymond the mic,” Brooks said to Greenberg. “Let him keep talking about me so I can play better.”

Brooks finished the night with 14 points, six assists, four rebounds, a steal and a block. Green had 16 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. I’m willing to bet that Thursday’s parting words from Brooks won’t be the last of this saga between the two forwards. Given Green’s pointed reaction on Wednesday, after everything Brooks has said this time, he might have more in store.
