“Karen” argues with workers over “2 for $5” Gatorade deal

In a video that went viral, a gas station attendant recorded her interaction with a rude “Karen,” who was upset when her “2 for $5” deal on Gatorade was not honored by the register.
The Karens’ reign of terror continues, and this time it’s about a Gatorade deal. User Trinity (@cxx.trin.cxx) uploaded the clip to her TikTok account on October 15 and has since received over 168,000 views.

In the video, a woman’s voice is heard saying, “It says, ‘Customer registration didn’t register the 2 for 5, so the drawer is short, simple.'” As Trinity and her colleague, who is also off, camera, tell the woman she’s wrong, the “Karen” keeps arguing with you, insisting she knows how the Gatorade deal works better than she does.
The conversation gets so heated that Trinity’s colleague is overheard telling the woman, “We also have the legal right to refuse your service,” before asking her to leave. Again, the difficult customer tells the couple that they are wrong and that they cannot refuse their service.
“The computer didn’t report the deal, so there’s nothing we can do about it,” the workers explain to the woman, who then insists the workers “ripped it off.” [her] off” for the Gatorade. The staff make it clear that they are trying to do the opposite by refunding their money.
“We only work here, ma’am. We’re pretty new,” says Trinity’s colleague, when she’s interrupted by “Karen,” who insists she’s trying to help them. “And we try to help you,” the colleagues reply. “We tell you we can give you a refund and that’s it.”
Viewers of the social media app were predictably shocked but not surprised by the woman’s behavior when her Gatorade deal didn’t work out.
“Oh boy, I have many similar stories. Someone tried to tell ME McDonald’s drink prices. Ma’am, I know. I’m an employee,” said one person, referring to the “Karen’s” claim that they know better than the workers.
“People do too much to tell you how to do your job,” said another.
“That’s over $1????” a third person pointed this out.
Although no one said the customer responded appropriately for not getting her Gatorade deal, some felt the workers should have given it to her. “I always thought you had to stick to the advertised price,” said one person.
Another worker recalled his own experience of the deals advertised in his store. “If my work has a sign or tag still hanging and the sale is up, we still have to give it to them, we just have to tear it down afterward,” they said.
However, most people praised how well the workers treated the customer and insisted their Gatorade deal will be honored.
“Bro if i tell you i started giving back the same attitude towards my anger issues never could,” one viewer wrote.
Another said: “Proud of you for staying professional AND respecting yourself. Nice job ladies.”
Users also called management at the gas station and said that if the deal wasn’t valid, then it shouldn’t be advertised.
“No reason I work in a grocery store and this happens to me A LOT like it’s not my fault it’s the nice grocer’s problem and not us cashiers,” said a comment liked by the creator.
