KanyeWest addresses the aftermath of his Paris Fashion Week scandal, during which he wore a White Lives Matter t-shirt, hit Fashion editor for her criticism and was later temporarily banned from several social media channels after sharing an anti-Semitic message.
The “famous” rapper first caused a stir on October 3 when he wore the controversial t-shirt at his Yeezy season 9 collection show. The backlash was swift, and West took aim at one critic in particular – Fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnsonwho he mocked on social media for her own fashion choices.
Things only got more chaotic in the days that followed, as West shared Instagram posts about his ex-wife Kim Kardashianwho claimed she and her family “kidnapped” their daughter Chicago and refused to let him see her at her 4th birthday party, allegations he originally made earlier this year (and which the Kardashians previously denied).
Khloe Kardashian stepped into the fray to beg her former brother-in-law to stop his ranting, which only caused the Jesus Walks artist to double down on his comments even more.
On October 7, West campaigned for a controversial interview Tucker Carlson‘s Fox News show, in which he explained the reason he chose to wear the t-shirt with “White Lives Matter” written on the back.
“I do certain things out of a feeling, I just channel the energy. It just feels right,” the designer explained. “It uses gut instinct, a connection to God and just plain brilliance.
He added, “People are looking for an explanation, and people are like, ‘Well, as an artist you don’t have to make an explanation,’ but as a leader you do. The answer to why I wrote “White Lives Matter” on a t-shirt is because they do. It’s the obvious.”
The next day after he shared an anti-Semitic message via Instagram, the Chicago native’s account was suspended by Meta, Instagram’s parent company, for violating its rules and policies. His Twitter account has also been temporarily suspended.
“I burst into tears,” Jamie Lee Curtis said Hoda Kotb about seeing West’s comments. “I woke up and burst into tears. Defcon 3 against Jews? What are you doing?”
She added: “It’s bad enough that fascism is on the rise around the world. But on Twitter, on a portal to enter that? As if the Jews didn’t have it hard enough already?”
