K9 officer tracks down suspected pistol whipper in Chicopee – Boston News, Weather, Sports

CHICOPEE, MASS. (WHDH) – State police are crediting a K9 handler and his canine partner with stalking a suspect to pistol flogging.

Soldiers responding to a reported domestic incident on Tuesday, December 13, lost sight of suspect Nathan Leblanc, 27, behind a trailer at a trailer park in Kon Tiki Circle near a Honda dealership, according to state police .

Last Tuesday night, Chicopee police launched a chase into a man suspected of handgun-hitting the victim in a domestic incident. Officers lost sight of the suspect, NATHAN LEBLANC, 27, behind an apartment building in a trailer park on Kon Tiki Circle next to a Honda dealership.

Teams helping with the search included Trooper Ken Hanchett and his partner Orry, assisted by Trooper John Areche. After clearing several yards in the area where the suspect was last seen, Orry began chasing behind an apartment building on Kon Tiki Circle, and the Troopers observed fresh footprints in the snow.

Orry continued east through the trailer park, crossing several roads and a small wooded area to reach Sunrise Lane. He continued east through numerous yards between the mobile homes and then turned northeast, where he reached a large fence enclosing a junkyard on Donohue Road. Orry and the Troopers navigated through a gap in the fence and entered the junkyard.

Orry displayed a proximity alert along a line of wrecked vehicles, finally concentrating on a red dump truck carrying a salt box on its bed. Trooper Hanchett issued a K9 alert and announced that any suspect there should surrender or be apprehended by the dog.

At that moment, police say, Leblanc announced his presence and emerged from his hiding place behind the dump truck. He was arrested without further incident and turned over to the Chicopee Police Department.
