LOS ANGELES – Justin Bieber says a rare condition that has left half of the superstar’s face paralyzed is the reason his tour has been postponed.
The multiple Grammy winner suffers from Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, he said in Video He posted on Instagram on Friday. The syndrome causes facial paralysis and affects the nerves in the face with an outbreak of shingles.
Bieber’s post comes after he canceled his shows in Toronto and Washington, DC. The singer demonstrated in the video that he could barely move one side of his face and called the condition “pretty serious.”
“For those who are frustrated by my cancellations of the next shows, I’m just obviously not physically able to do them,” he said. The singer added: “My body is telling me to slow down. I hope you understand.”
Bieber said he’s not sure how long it will take him to heal. But he seemed confident of making a full recovery with rest and therapy.
“I’m going to use this time to just rest and relax and get back to 100 percent so I can do what I was born to do,” he said.
In March, Biebers’ wife Hailey Bieber was hospitalized with a blood clot in her brain.
