WORCESTER, MASS. (WHDH) – Jesse Doyon, the 16-year-old Uxbridge High School student, was due to start school in two weeks but is likely still in hospital after he was hit by a Uxbridge Police squad car.
“The first time he recognized me was today and he just wanted me to get him out of there,” said the teen’s father, Jesse Doyson.
The 16-year-old had been skateboarding home on Saturday night when his family said he was hit by a police cruiser. He suffered a broken leg, a fractured jaw and a brain hemorrhage from the impact. At one point, doctors had put him on a ventilator while he was in a medically induced coma.
“It’s super frustrating. I don’t even know what to do with myself,” Jesse’s father said.
Jesse’s father said it was difficult to get information from the police. Because Jesse is sedated, he cannot tell his side of the story.
“We just put on shoes and ran out the door. It didn’t matter what happened. It was more about how he was doing, what’s going on because we didn’t get any information,” said the teen’s mother’s friend Mark Ross. “When I got here I called the police station for more information and they told me to call again the next day.”
The Uxbridge Police Department has not released many details, only confirming to 7NEWS that an officer on duty hit a pedestrian on East Hartford Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night.
“We don’t blame anyone. We just don’t know if it was an accident, it was an accident, but I don’t understand why they’re so secretive,” Ross said. “Just come out and say this happened.
There is no current information on the status of the police officer.
