Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool will not seek to sign a new midfielder in the summer transfer window despite Thiago’s injury in Saturday’s draw against Fulham.

Thiago was substituted on 50 minutes as Liverpool were held 2-2 by the newly promoted side and appeared to be holding his hamstring at Craven Cottage.

Liverpool are currently missing Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota through injury, and even Jordan Henderson had a scare in the first half despite being able to continue.

Asked about Thiago’s injury, Klopp told the BBC: “I have no idea, it’s looking pretty bad. He didn’t look too happy.”

The Liverpool boss has downplayed his growing injury list and insists the club will not be tempted to sign a new midfielder before the transfer window closes.

“I know what’s coming now, it’s clear,” added Klopp. “We said we didn’t need a midfielder because we have enough – and indeed we have enough.

“But the problem now is that we’re being penalized for something that’s not really our responsibility because things like that can happen.

“Nobody could have imagined this Curtis [Jones] gets what he gets; It’s nothing serious, but he’s a little boy and it’s kind of a stress reaction.

“Bodies are like that. Nabi [Keita] is just sick and will definitely be back next week.

‘[The injury to] Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain happened early and now with Thiago of course it’s not good and we’ll see.

“See, a transfer needs to make sense now and in the long term; we have midfielders, we still have enough midfielders.

“It’s not that we’re missing midfielders, but some of them are injured. It’s not a good situation, I don’t like it at all, but we’ll have to see how we react to it – but we’re certainly not panicking.”

Liverpool return to the Premier League against Crystal Palace on August 15.
