Super agent Jorge Mendes has been tasked with managing Sevilla’s sale of Jules Kounde as both sides have keen interest in the player Chelsea and Barcelona.

The France international has been one of the most impressive young centre-backs in Europe’s top leagues for the past two seasons and with both clubs looking to improve their respective defences, he is expected to leave Julen Lopetegui’s side this summer.

Mendes is the prominent agent in world football, managing the careers of clients such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho and Angel Di Maria. The 56-year-old transitioned into the football industry in the 1990s when he managed a transfer for future Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo while he was still playing.

Since then, his Gestifute agency has greatly expanded their global football influence and Sevilla have moved into Mendes to try to maximize the transfer fee they receive for Kounde, who is not directly linked to Mendes.

The 23-year-old signed for Sevilla in his homeland from Bordeaux three years ago, with the Andalusians paying just over £25million for his services. Mendes met Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta on Monday to discuss a potential deal in the region of £60million.

At the end of his first season in Spain, he won the UEFA Europa League with his new club and was part of the squad for the France national team that won the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League.

Chelsea are on the lookout for new centre-backs to bolster their defense this summer after Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left on free transfers, with the former joining Real Madrid and the latter Barcelona.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move from Juventus defender Mathijs de Ligt, who has reportedly told the Serie A club’s hierarchy that he wants to leave this summer, as well as Manchester City’s Nathan Ake.

Ake played for Chelsea before being sold to Bournemouth in 2017 and the possibility of a return to Stamford Bridge has been touted as negotiations between Chelsea and City over a transfer for England striker Raheem Sterling were ruined.
