Job Hunter says she got 3 interviews after a month of no luck

In a now-viral TikTok, a job seeker shares a surprisingly simple hack that quickly got her three job interviews.

TikToker Cheyenne (@cheyferg_) posted the video on February 28th. On March 14, the video reached over 43,000 views.

In the clip, Cheyenne says she decided to email recruiters to track their applications a few days after posting on Indeed, a popular digital job board.

“Email follow-up, it seems so obvious and old-fashioned, but nobody seems to be doing it. It helped me stand out,” she says in the clip. “It shows that you take initiative, that you’re a self-starter, that you’re resourceful, and those are things that are already in job descriptions anyway.”

In the comments, many recruiters reiterated that they appreciate it when candidates come forward.

“I am a [manager] and I definitely appreciate it!! Sometimes we get too many applications and can’t go through them all,” wrote one user. “But one thing I recommend is to also email your resume to 2-3 other people in the same department once you apply. it will be forwarded normally!”

“I’ve never received an email from a candidate before arranging an interview, but if they did (and were qualified) I would definitely give them priority,” said another.

Others asked Cheyenne how she finds emails from hiring managers.

In the comments section, she suggested, “Try LinkedIn first, then find an email from their site! The companies I applied to are small, so they don’t have dedicated email addresses for hiring managers.”

In an email to the Daily Dot, Cheyenne shared that she received a job offer after using her follow-up method, but ultimately decided to turn it down because of “unfair compensation.”

“Because of my follow-up technique, I have another interview this week!” she wrote.
