After working with Tim Burton on the hit Netflix series, WednesdayRising star Jenna Ortega is reportedly on track to reunite with the director for his next project: bug juice 2, a direct sequel to the 1998 cult classic. Michael Keaton, who hasn’t shied away from reprising his most famous roles, will return as an evil spirit. Ortega is reportedly in talks to play Winona Ryder’s character’s daughter from the original film.
The sequel had been in the works at Warner Bros. for some time before Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company officially came on board last February. Beetlejuice follows Charles (Jeffrey Jones), Delia (Catherine O’Hara) and Lydia Deetz (Ryder), who live in a house previously occupied by the Maitlands (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis). The Maitlands died in a car accident, but their ghosts want to move back into their former home and recruit Beetlejuice (Keaton), a “bio-exorcist” to scare the Deetzees away.
Ortega’s re-teaming with Burton comes at an interesting time. She recently gave an interview in which she claimed to have rewritten her lines Wednesday because they were “boring”.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had to push on a set like I did on Wednesday,” Ortega said armchair expert podcast. “It’s so easy to fall into that category, especially on this type of show. Everything she does, everything I had to play, made absolutely no sense to her character.”
Ortega’s words clearly didn’t affect her relationship with Burton.
