After a tumultuous first season of Real Housewives of Orange County, Dr. Jen Armstrong has filed for a legal separation from her husband of eight years, Ryne Holliday. Viewers witnessed the couple’s troubles during episodesand the news of a possible divorce comes as no surprise.
Jen filed legal documents last week, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. She is seeking legal and physical custody of her three children, with Ryne receiving visitors.
In March, she put her Orange County home up for sale and said at the reunion that she wasn’t sure Ryne would even move in with them.
Jen Armstrong said she and Ryne are “on the right track” after a brief split.
Jen posed on Instagram just five days ago when her family was at Disneyland and they all seemed happy. Her caption read: “What a magical day at Disneyland with family! Thank you @disneyland for the great tour and the day full of laughter, smiles and pure magic!!!! It makes you feel like a little kid again!” This would have been very close to the day they legally filed their divorce.
Jen announced in February that she and Ryne are back together after a month-long split. She said she’s decided to temporarily separate and it wasn’t an easy decision, but she’s reached a point of no return at this point. When they got back together, Jen said Ryne had a newfound appreciation for her hard work outside of the home.
“We broke up for a while and lived life without each other,” Jen said. “And I think that led to us having more appreciation for who the other person was and a different attitude towards getting back together and putting in the work to stay together.” She happily expressed, ” Ryne and I are much better now. It got worse and then I turned a corner and came back. It got better.”
According to the new housewife, she was very uncomfortable discussing her problems on camera. and she admitted, “We had a challenging relationship and people can be very judgmental. A lot of people came up and said, ‘Oh, you deserve better. How do you let him treat you like that?’ But they are not in everyday life. You don’t know the story.”
Ryne was never comfortable on TV
During the season 16 reunion, Andy Cohen mentioned to Jen that it seemed Ryne was uncomfortable filming for the show. Heather Dubrow even said she chatted with him about a vacation rental and that he was very charming and outgoing at the time, but when she met him in person he was very different.
Ryne is the President of Hawaii Hideaways, also based in Newport Beach, a service that includes luxury home rentals and specialty vacation planning for small businesses. Jen spoke about how her husband is very successful but she is the breadwinner of their home.
At the end of the reunion, Jen said that she and Ryne have come a long way since their brief split and that their relationship has taken a turn for the better.
The Real Housewives of Orange County are currently on a Bravo hiatus.
