Jeff Garlin won’t be back ABC’s hit sitcom “The Goldbergs” after a series of allegations of misconduct led to a network investigation into the actor’s conduct on set, which some consider abusive.

Garlin’s departure is supposedly a joint decision between the actors and Sony, which produced the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

There have been rumors in recent months that the “Mad About You” actor has been fired, but he refuted those reports in an interview with Vanity Fair published in early December. Garlin admitted that there had been a personnel investigation into his conduct over the previous three years.

Garlin allegedly used inappropriate language during production and often referred to longtime female members not by name but by nicknames that some consider offensive. Some complaints also claim that the actor has a tendency to hug and kiss. He dismissed these actions, calling them silly, misunderstood.

Garlin tells Vanity Fair about the annual surveys. “It’s about me and my goofiness on set. They don’t think it’s appropriate. I do. That’s where we are.”

The actor explained that when he was making the movie “Constrain Your Enthusiasm,” if he didn’t act this way, people would “ask me if I’m okay.”

“I need to do what I need to do to stay energized and do what I do,” he said. “So I don’t know what to say.”

Garlin’s departure is effective immediately and means he won’t be returning to finish the ninth season of “The Goldbergs”. It’s unclear how the production will handle the popular show’s tenth season if it is renewed by ABC.

Also not sure if Garlin will continue to be a part of By HBO “Constrain Your Enthusiasm,” in which he’s both the lead actor and executive producer.

CNBC has reached out to representatives for Garlin, as well as ABC. Both were not immediately available for comment. Sony and HBO both declined to comment.
