Ten Hag took charge of United this summer but his first game ended in a nightmare as the Red Devils lost 2-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Dutchman faces a tall order to take United to the top four in the Premier League and back into the Champions League after finishing sixth last season.
Ten Hag has had support from some pundits, with Steve Nicol adamant there is no one to point the finger at and that the problems lie with United’s players instead.
And now Mexico international Hernandez, nicknamed Chicharito – who scored 59 goals in 157 games for United from 2010 to 2015 – has told the current squad to “overcome” Sir Alex Ferguson’s trophy-rich era and embrace Ten’s tactics Adjust hag.
The two-time Premier League champion, who now plays for Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy, told the PA: “Sir Alex was very good… It’s not easy replacing that man like that. It’s like winning the lottery.
“Do you think someone you hire after that will be able to do 80 percent of what Ferguson did? My point is that after Ferguson puts so much pressure on it, it’s just not going to work out.
“United now have to get over the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson has left. Would we like someone similar? Yes Yes Yes. But Sir Alex is gone and things will never be the same again.
“So United have to adapt and allow the next manager to do it in his own way.”
United return on Saturday when they take on Brentford in the Premier League.
