Jamie Carragher says Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson were “outstanding” in Liverpool’s crucial away win at Newcastle on Saturday.
Naby Keita’s first-half goal was enough to win 1-0 at St James’ Park to put leaders Manchester City under pressure in their title fight.
The Reds were initially two points above City Pep Guardiola’s side face Leeds United later on Saturday.
Players like Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold were named as substitutes, with Gomez being one of the players who came into play.
Liverpool legend Carragher praised the performances of full-backs Gomez and Robertson on Twitter after the game.
‘Joe Gomez & Andy Robertson outstanding 🔥 #NEWLIV,’ wrote carrage.
Robertson put in another energetic performance, with Klopp impressed by the left-back’s impressive injury-time sprint, as well as the performances of a host of other players.
“Joe Gomez, what a game. Naby Keita, what a game. James Milner, what a game. Diogo Jota – my god, what a game,” Klopp told BT Sport.
“You see Andy Robertson at minute 93, 150 mph sprint down. That is absolutely exceptional.”
“You can’t defend them properly because it’s always these long balls. It’s really difficult to get a feel for the game but it’s obviously not the first time these things have happened,” added Klopp.
“We had to seat Joel [Matip] broad and joe [Gomez] on the website. We had to put Naby [Keita] before the challenges.
“Our people have been outstanding and Newcastle are obviously a really passionate crowd. Winning here is something special.”
