Jaeman Salmon’s family hit back at Ricky Stuart over feud claims

Jaeman Salmon’s family have called for a strong crackdown on Ricky Stuart, who described the panther as a “weakly gutted dog” in an incredible outburst.

Jaeman Salmon’s family have been stunned by claims that Ricky Stuart’s verbal abuse was linked to an incident in 2010 involving Jackson, the Canberra manager’s son.

Now the family wants the NRL to take action against Stuart.

It has been alleged that Stuart had a confrontation with Salmon’s father in 2010 after Jaeman and Jackson exchanged words while playing for De La Salle Cronulla in an under-12 match.

The Salmon family insists no such confrontation took place. Sources close to the family said there was a “childish” incident between Jaeman and Jackson – but denied there was any parental involvement.

Jaeman and Jackson played on the same team for two more years and were teammates until Stuart moved to Canberra in late 2013.

The Daily Telegraph has been told that the Stuart and Salmon families have split “on good terms” and have not been in touch since Stuart returned to the Raiders.

“We were disappointed by Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart’s comments after a fantastic game of football for the Panthers and our son Jaeman,” the Salmon family said in a statement.

“We were surprised by Ricky’s claim that he knew Jaeman personally as they hadn’t been in touch since Jae was 12.

“We are calling on the NRL to take action as we believe Jaeman has been wronged in this situation.

“We will follow proper procedures and have the NRL conduct a thorough investigation.”

NRL legend Cooper Cronk said the family’s statement put additional pressure on the NRL to take action.

“This is going to be ugly, so you can’t cross the line,” Cronk told the Fox League.

“And that’s why Ricky was so out of line when he said what he did.

“Now the Salmon family stands by their son’s integrity. And this adds spice to the NRL to come down a little harder.

“They are asking the NRL to conduct a thorough investigation and impose some form of sanctions.”

Panthers great Greg Alexander was stunned by Stuart’s comments.

“The game is in a very unusual situation,” Alexander told Fox League.

“I don’t recall this ever happening at a press conference in the last 20 years.

“So the family has every right to make a statement in support of their son. Now we leave it to the NRL.”
