‘It’s painful’: Brockton fire badly damages house – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BROCKTON, MASS. (WHDH) – A Brockton family learned they may not be able to return to their home after a fire ripped through their home on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire severely damaged the back of the two-family home, destroying the roof and burning down the pickup truck in the driveway.

James Ocasio was the only one in the house at the time of the fire. He was working in his home office when he noticed smoke coming out of his window.

“As soon as it smoldered, I opened the door and saw a flame and within 30 seconds to a minute it was up,” Ocasio said. “One second there was a blaze and the next second the decks were up.”

Ocasio lived in the house with his family and in-laws.

“It’s painful to lose the one thought that’s important to me,” Ocasio said.

Firefighters said it was difficult to control the blaze because the house is on a cul-de-sac.

“Usually we want to have a water supply from two different directions. In this case, it had to come from one direction,” said Kevin Galligan, Brockton Fire Chief. “With the heat and intensity of the fire and the long lay times, three companies were required to deal with the fire.”

Officials said the fire is still under investigation.
