Italian mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro arrested after 30 years on the run

A convicted mafia boss responsible for dozens of murders has finally been arrested after 30 years on the run.
Matteo Messina Denaro went into hiding as a young man, but soon became Italy’s most wanted man.
He had a power base in the port city of Trapani in western Sicily and, even as a refugee, was considered the supreme boss of the Cosa Nostra.
Messina Denaro, now 60, was arrested at a private clinic in Palermo where he was being treated for an unknown illness.
Dramatic footage shows how the Carabinieri police take the aging crime boss to a secret location immediately after his arrest.
Messina Denaro was the last of three long-time fugitive mafia bosses who managed to evade capture for decades.
But now he faces the rest of his life in prison after being tried in absentia and convicted of dozens of murders.
