Summer is just around the corner when the sun comes out to play – usually just in time for the arrival of a holiday weekend.

With the last two years’ holidays marred by the pandemic, this year families and friends finally have a chance to gather during the well-deserved break.

Spring Bank Holiday usually falls on the last Monday in May – but this year things are a little different.

So is Monday 30 May a public holiday this year? Here’s what you need to know…

Is Monday May 30th a public holiday?

The short answer is no, Monday May 30th is not a public holiday.

In any other year, this would have been the day the country shut down the tools for its well-deserved long weekend – but the normal spring bank holiday has been moved to 2022 to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee.

But while that means Monday is a normal working day, that’s not all bad news – because you’ll get two bank holidays later this week to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70th anniversary on the throne.

Spring Bank Holiday is now Thursday 2nd June – and there is an additional holiday as part of the anniversary celebrations on Friday 3rd June.

Instead, look forward to a nice four-day weekend – and that’s it Numerous events will be held throughout the break to mark the platinum anniversary.

Buses and trains operate on public holidays unless there is a special announcement for a particular service.

Some rail lines tend to do important work on public holidays meaning disruptions can occur, but there is often plenty of advance notice.

Buses otherwise run throughout the holiday, but services can change or be less frequent – so always check times before setting off anywhere.
