MERRIMACK, NH (WHDH) — New Hampshire state police are appealing for witnesses to check their dashcams after at least one person was seriously injured in a serious multi-car crash on the Everett Turnpike.
Merrimack Fire, State and Local Police were called to the accident around 9 a.m. Tuesday for reports of an accident involving at least five vehicles.
More ambulances were soon called when first responders discovered the extent of the crash near the 14.8-mile mark, officials said. A silver Hyundai Sonata was involved in the accident and was shown in several photos of the scene as being shredded and impaled by a guardrail during the crash.
Inside was a 32-year-old man from Manchester who had to be extricated, which resulted in firefighters removing the car’s bonnet to free him. State Police said the man, identified as Sean McConnell, reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester.
According to Merrimack Firethree other people were also taken to a hospital, while another three refused transport.
A state police public information officer said the turnpike was completely closed for about half an hour when crews responded, and gradually reopened on both the north and south sides over a three-hour period.
In a press release from the PIO, authorities said they believe speed may have been a factor in the crash, but said “all aspects are still under investigation.”
State Police are now asking anyone who may have witnessed Tuesday morning’s crash, drove by the scene with a dash cam, or saw “any driving behavior prior to the crash” to email Trooper Ryan Hajjar at Ryan.J.Hajjar@ to contact dos.nh.gov or by voicemail at (603) 223-8760.
