“Insider tips” Kubler and Hijikata are used for the doubles final

Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos made tennis history on Friday when they became the first all-Brazilian duo to win a Grand Slam doubles title.

Stefani and Matos, who eliminated the Australian pair Marc Polmans and Olivia Gadecki in the semifinals, triumphed 7: 6 (7: 2), 6: 2 over the Indians Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna in the mixed doubles final of the Australian Open.

It was the six-time major doubles title winner and former world doubles No. 1 Mirza’s last game as a professional player.

Don’t go for the logo

Belarusian Victoria Azarenka’s bid for a third singles title at the Australian Open ended on Thursday evening in the hands of Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.

But there was an interesting interaction between Azarenka and chair umpire Alison Hughes before the pre-game warm-up began.

Azarenka strolled onto the pitch again in a Paris Saint-Germain football shirt, in honor of the French team her son Leo follows and dreams of playing for a day, but Hughes was quick to ask her to take it off before warming up.

“I think it’s the problem with the sponsorships. I think the logos are too big,” said Azarenka after her 7:6 (7:4), 6:3 defeat against Rybakina.

“There’s nothing extraordinary about what they’ve done – I know I can’t be a part of that. I knew such things.

“But I can still step into something [clothing] I want to step onto the pitch [with]. I do it for my own reasons. My son wore the white jersey to his practice today and I tried to wear a white jersey to my game but couldn’t. So that’s fine.”
