There was no sign of Kamaruddin until the next day, when a local smelled a foul odor wafting through the air.

His body was discovered on Wednesday evening.

“He was found around 11:30 p.m. local time on the evening of June 15. The body was recovered and given to the family for burial.”

Crocodiles kill an estimated 1,000 people a year (Image: Getty Images)

It comes after a young British backpacker said she was “very, very lucky to be alive” after being attacked by a crocodile on the Zambezi River in Zambia last year.

She was rescued by brave friends who dived into the water behind her and slapped the crocodile on the nose until it released them.

It was previously estimated that 1,000 people are killed by crocodiles every year.

The animals don’t necessarily prey on humans, but they are opportunistic killers.
