An independent report on what happened in and around the Stade de France during the Champions League final was commissioned by UEFA.

Before the game in Paris, there were depressing scenes when Liverpool fans were held in a confined space for hours and were unable to enter the stadium despite being held Tickets for the game.

Police gassed the crowd with tear gas as more and more people rushed in from behind, causing a crushing, though luckily serious injuries were avoided.

French authorities have accused thousands of people trying to enter the stadium with fake tickets, while French interior minister Gerald Darmanin even accused Reds boss Jurgen Klop of encouraging fans to go to Paris if they didn’t have tickets.

Liverpool Football Club have denied their fans were at all wrong and have called for an independent review, which they received.

A UEFA statement said: “UEFA today announced that it has commissioned an independent report on the events surrounding the UEFA Champions League final in Paris on Saturday 28 May.

“The comprehensive review will examine the decision-making, responsibility and behavior of all entities involved in the final.”

This comes after Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan said they would be pushing for it on Monday.

“It was good to hear that others are also calling for a really independent and transparent investigation into the organization of the final in Paris,” he said. “We have followed up our request for an independent investigation with UEFA in writing.

“We have also expressed our deep concern at the spread of misinformation and urged UEFA to agree to an open and transparent investigation into all of Saturday night’s incidents.”
