Imate was found dead in Gunnison Prison

How he died is under investigation.

(Utah Department of Corrections) An inmate was found dead at the state prison in Gunnison on Sunday.

Officials are investigating the death of an inmate at the Central Utah Correctional Facility on Sunday.

According to a news release from the Utah Department of Corrections, 66-year-old Steven Davis was found “unresponsive” in his cell at the Gunnison Prison. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to officials, it was not possible to determine how he died. It has not been clarified whether there is suspicion of a crime. The prison, which houses about 1,760 inmates, was placed under lockdown on Sunday as an investigation into the prisoner’s death began.

Davis had been in prison since December 1983 after being convicted of first-degree sodomy of a child and parole violations.

He was the second inmate to die at the Gunnison prison this month.
