I’m the queen of cleanliness – my tips for keeping your home cool during a heatwave – and where you charge your phone matters

There’s nothing worse than not being able to keep your cool in your own home.
But if you can’t stand the heat, there’s no need to buy expensive air conditioning that will be utterly useless for most of the year.

You can easily beat the rising temperatures at home, Lyndsey Crombie told Express.co.uk.
The first thing that can make a big difference on particularly hot days is your kitchen.
Lynsey said, “Step away from the stove and swap those heavy winter meals for summery salads and BBQs.”
And while you might not like them at first, a cool or even cold shower can keep you from overheating.
“The steam will linger and your home will feel hotter,” she explained.
It’s also important to think about which windows you keep open, because those that get direct sunlight only heat your home, while windows in shady spots allow cool air to flow freely.
It can also be tempting to leave all the curtains and blinds open on a sunny day, but this could also heat up your home.
Instead, Lynsey said they should keep them closed during the hottest part of the day, especially in bedrooms where you want it cooler for sleeping.
If you’re still not falling asleep, the pro suggests switching to a lower duvet to stay cool.
She said: Pull off your thick duvet and take a lower tog or just use a cotton sheet
“If you have a hot water bottle, swap it out for the summer months and fill it with cold water, then pop it in the freezer half an hour before bed.”
And if you really want to go all out to stay cool, don’t charge your phone next to your bed.
The queen of cleanliness explained that the devices radiate heat and can make your bedroom even hotter.
