“I’m sure Hamilton himself will understand” – Sergio Perez apologizes to Lewis Hamilton after helping Max Verstappen win the world championship title

Sergio Perez put in an impressive performance back and forth with Lewis Hamilton to get him to slow down for Max Verstappen to catch up.

Sergio Perez has apologized to Lewis Hamilton after he helped Max Verstappen speed up in the title race at GP Abu Dhabi.

Since Sunday’s race, Lewis Hamilton has led the championship from the start of the race. However, he found himself in an unlikely battle with Perez after coming out of the pit.

The Mexican took the lead from Hamilton and built a solid defense to keep Hamilton as long as possible. This match allowed his teammate Max Verstappen to have valuable time and get closer to his opponent.

Perez said, “Hurting someone in the world championship is something you don’t want to do but I ended up doing it for my team.”

“I’m sure Hamilton himself will understand that very well, I did everything for Max, for my team.”

Sergio Perez wants to be the main man

In addition to Perez’s help, Verstappen also took advantage of the safety car that Nicholas Latifi activated. With just six laps left and some controversial decisions by the race director, Verstappen was already behind his title rival.

However, Perez believes that even with the safety car, Hamilton’s race will be easy. He said, “In the end, I was able to help and that’s the important thing. I think about 10 seconds that Hamilton lost is what made the race. ”

“If he hadn’t helped get into all the windows, he could have done it in the car safely. I will stop and the race will be relatively easy for Lewis,” he added.

The Mexican player has had an impressive run of form this season. After playing a second time with teammate Verstappen, he believes he has what it takes to be the main man.

“I think it will be determined soon, I think I can complete the task. I got up to speed today. In the last few races, I’ve made great progress. Starting from scratch, I think I have the best chance.”

“Hopefully we can have a car as competitive as this year,” he concluded.
