I’m sorry, Ute fans. What I mean is, Utah is now a place where quarterbacks will ‘thrive’

Cam Rising’s All-Pac-12 season deserves credit – and an apology

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah Utes quarterback Cameron Rising (7) beats Colorado Buffaloes fullback Carson Wells (26) as the University of Utah hosts the Colorado Buffaloes in the Pac-12 football game, Friday , November 26, 2021 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

I’m sorry.

That’s what I said.

I was asked by some Utah fans who didn’t notice the mediocre or underdeveloped Ute midfield streak between Brian Johnson in 2008 and Tyler Huntley in 2018 – Tommy Grady, Terrance Cain, Jordan Wynn, Jon Hays, Travis Wilson, Adam Schulz, Kendal Thompson, Troy Williams, with a bit of Jason Shelley interjecting – followed by two famous rookies, Jack Tuttle and Peter Costelli, who were dropped from the show, and two other quarterbacks, high-profile transfers Jake Bentley and Charlie Brewer, who failed in Utah, to apologize for a column I wrote earlier this season that said Utah is where quarterbacks have to die.

That last part, apparently, is no longer true, not with the increase of the Orange Rising, who walked the path he had.

I received hundreds of messages, in one form or another, from less than happy fans, which caught my attention. I thank you. I could have missed it otherwise.

So I was a lot right and a little wrong.

I can admit that.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

A sample message on Twitter and elsewhere:

“Sssssssssswing and a slide.”

“We’re laughing.”

“It would be nice if Gordon accepted some accountability for his poor decisions.”

“Hey, @GordonMonson, @Utah_football has had Pac-12 first place team QBs for 2 of the last 3 years. But you and your article say that Utah is where the QBs ‘died’. How exactly does that work?”

“Take it easy with the truth… Gordo doesn’t care much for that…”

“This failure ranks right there with your ‘Clueless Kyle’ article. I think it’s pretty obvious that the ‘ignorant’ person is Gordon Monson. “

“He is a tool and always has been. His articles are negative clickbait. Just ignore him even if he stings about being let go. ”

“@UtahCoachWhitt and @Utah_Football are now accepting apologies. Please write a correction. Isn’t that what the press does when they don’t know the truth? ”

“clown face emoji.”

“It doesn’t age.”

“Hi Gordon! [picture of a clown]. ”

“Your shoddy sports journalism deserves all the smoke.”

“He was the only reason I unsubscribed from @sltrib.”

“I know Gordon Monson has a career filled with horrible articles, but this one should be at the forefront of his embarrassing articles.”

“Twitter is where Gordon Monsons [sic] s—- will be laughed at. ”

“Sorry s—-.”

“Catch him guys (meme with SpongeBob Squarepants characters holding pitchers and torches).”

“He is a schtick hack. Just look for clicks for relevance. One thing want. “

“Don’t come here every two years… Glad you showed up!”

“@GordonMonson I’m interested in how do you get this QB to die here? I’m sure you have a follow up on it. ”

“Say you’re sorry, m ————— r.”

Okay, like I said, “I’m sorry.”

Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.

I was wrong, wrong, wrong.

Utah is where the quarterback used to go to die.

Not anymore, not now. I’m sorry, Ute fans. What I mean is, Utah is now a place where quarterbacks will ‘thrive’
