I’m sorry but you can’t get married in a Wetherspoons anymore

If you’ve ever wanted to get married in Spoons, you’ve officially missed your chance.
That’s because the only branch of a Wetherspoon that hosts weddings will close tomorrow. Sob.
Knights Templar on Chancery Lane in Holborn, central London, was formerly the home of Union Bank.
It is now popular with many university students, but it was also popular with couples.
With the average cost of a UK wedding now estimated to be in excess of £20,000, the Spoons version was thought to be a fraction of the roughly £5,000 price tag.
The prize reportedly included 100 guests, a three-course meal, table settings and a DJ.
It was the only one of hundreds of Wetherspoons pubs that had a wedding licence.
Despite the popularity of the venue, Wetherspoons confirmed the pub will remain closed on Saturday 18 March.
A spokesman for JD Wetherspoon previously said: “The Knights Templar lease has expired. Since we have two other pubs in the immediate vicinity, we regretfully decided not to take advantage of an extension option.
“We’ve had a great 24 years at the pub and are very grateful to our amazing managers, Gerry and Jan Swords, their equally amazing team who work at the pub and our wonderful and loyal customers.

“We would also like to thank our landlords, with whom we have always had an excellent relationship. All of our employees are offered jobs in nearby pubs.”
They added that other venues are available for wedding receptions and parties, but not for a ceremony itself.
It’s understood a decision was made not to renew the lease when the chain failed to find buyers for the nearby Penderel’s Oak pub, which was originally slated to close.
Last year, Wetherspoons operated 852 pubs in the UK and Ireland in 2022, but it was announced the giant will sell 35 branches this year.
