I’m an interior designer – there’s a trending interior design style that most homeowners regret

EVERYONE regrets having given in to trends that were later left behind.
While your home hasn’t fallen victim to fashion crimes like low-slung jeans or pencil-thin eyebrows, there are still plenty of outdated trends that you might now feel regret about.

One style in particular has fallen out of favor, write the Domino experts.
The experts write that according to a survey by HomeHow, industrial design elements like exposed brick and concrete floors are a trend that homeowners can cope with.
The survey found that 61 percent of respondents regret choosing an industrial design for their renovations.
If you can’t afford a total living space makeover, there are other ways to stem the tide.

How to combat the exposed beams and cold floors of your on-trend mid-2010s makeover.
To counteract both the stark appearance of industrial floors and the echo chamber effect of open floor plans, add carpets in all shades to your home.
The fabric absorbs sound while giving you plenty of customization options.
“Layer them on top of each other for ultimate coziness,” the experts wrote.
You can even mix and match designs for a different effect: “Either two in the same color scheme, or one bold shade and one neutral for some contrast.”
Coordinate these rugs with fabric curtains that can act as dividers in an open floor plan.
Draping fabric from the ceiling in a canopy style can artificially lower super-high ceilings and hide unsightly HVAC ducting that was considered cool a decade ago.
Or carry color themes through bookcase displays to create discrete spaces in your home.

“Fringe curtains can be hung from the ceiling, and a plant hedge or row of bookshelves can create zones without ever having to lift a sledgehammer,” the pros explained.
Get creative with materials and don’t be afraid to use warm woods and light colors to balance a space that looks as cold as it feels.
