AN interior design expert has revealed which colors to avoid in your bathroom if you want it to look good.

White may be a common color to paint your bathroom – but it should be avoided.

Interior experts Stefan and Maegan Bucur from Rhythm of the Home explained that bright white is one of the worst colors to use in a bathroom.

They told the Express: “If the steam from the shower comes into contact with the light-colored walls, it can cause ugly stains in the short term and permanent damage in the long term.”

And real estate agent John Maxim agreed, saying color could also affect home value.

“Because bathrooms are one of the smallest rooms in the house — and a place where most people wash away dirt, walls tend to stain,” he said.

John also pointed out that most cleaning products remove white paint from the wall.

Stefan and Maegan also recommend avoiding the color green in your bathroom as it can make you feel uncomfortable.

They explained, “The principles of feng shui tend to be frowned upon (by Green) in the bathroom.”

So if you want to be comfortable, you should avoid green in the bathroom.

Peach is another color best avoided, said interior designer Aaron Lebowski, as it makes the space look dated.

He said: “Instead of greeting a visitor, it can make them want to leave the room quickly.

“It makes the room feel uninviting and lowers the energy.”

Other experts recommended avoiding black color in your bathroom, for the same reason white doesn’t work – it can be difficult to keep clean.

Leigh Spicher, an Ashton Woods expert, said it was a “poor design choice” because it absorbs light, making it hard to tell if that’s where you like to put your makeup.

She also recommends avoiding the color red if you want your bathroom to remain a relaxing space.
