YOUR iPhone has an amazing card trick that everyone should know.
It’s being shared on TikTok as a safety tip — and parents will definitely want to learn how to use it.
The feature is called Share ETA and is built right into Apple Maps.
ETA stands for Estimated Time of Arrival, which means that this feature is all about improving security on your travels.
If you activate it, a real-time tracker of your location will be sent to your friends or family.
And they can even see your route – and tell you if you’ve lost the quickest route home.
It’s a terrifying thought, but kidnappings happen – and your iPhone could be of help in a dangerous situation.
The trick was shared on TikTok by Apple expert Katarina Mogus, who regularly posts iPhone tricks under the @katamogz handle.
Her post on this important security trick received over 3,000 likes and is a must read for every iPhone owner.
“If you’re anything like me and you forget to tell people you’ve safely reached the goal, here’s what you’re going to do,” Katarina told her viewers.
“In the Maps app, we click the arrow and then click Share Estimated Time of Arrival.
“This person can observe your journey.
“If you’re a parent, this is super easy for your kids to let you know they got to the spot safely.”
To use the feature, you need to make sure your iPhone is running iOS 13 or later.
The latest version of Apple’s iPhone software is iOS 15, so you should be fine.
However, if you need to check, go to Settings > General > Software update and install any available patches.
How to share ETA on Apple Maps with your iPhone
Open your Apple Maps app on an iPhone running iOS 13 or later.
Then start a journey by selecting a destination and tapping Directions, then Go.
Now open the menu below by tapping the arrow in the bottom right corner.
Then select “Share Arrival Time” which should be the second option at the bottom of the menu.
You can then share your location with recent contacts and even with multiple people at once.
If the selected recipient is not in the recent contacts list, you can tap Contacts to search for a specific person.
Then tap the person to start sharing.
An alert will appear at the bottom of the screen, reminding you that you’re sharing your location – and how many people you’re reporting live to.
You can tap a person’s icon to stop sharing your location with them.
This is a great trick that can give you and your family peace of mind.
If you feel you are in danger, you can also use iPhone’s “five-click” trick to contact emergency services.
