APPLE has revealed details about the capabilities of its new iPhone software and the public response has been solid.
Users with access to a beta version of iOS 16 love this feature.
iOS 16 has a new tool to remove background from still images.
Until this software, removing backgrounds required a third-party app.
Some users would have to laboriously cut out the subject from their images.
On iOS 16, the process is fully automated and requires no input from the user.
The software precisely removes the background using machine learning techniques.
An Apple engineer told CNET that the device performs 40 billion operations per second when cutting out backgrounds from photos.
“It feels like magic,” said the engineer.
The underlying technology is based on Apple’s Visual Lookup, which can “see” images and provide information about them.

“What I love about this feature is that there are no additional apps or menus that you have to learn,” said one TikToker in a video.
This feature could put an end to third-party apps whose only purpose is to remove backgrounds.
Each time the software adds new tools, Apple absorbs markets previously owned by third-party developers.
A beta version of iOS 16 is available for users with a paid developer account.
Note that it is not advisable to install beta software on your primary device – use a backup device if you can spare it.
