The iPhone 14 is expected to bring the most noticeable changes for the device since the removal of the home button in 2017.

The most advanced devices in the upcoming range, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, will likely remove the notch at the top of the screen and replace it with a subtle punch-and-pill design.

While the larger screen might justify a slight price hike, it’s the upgraded hardware that has insiders predicting a $100 to $200 increase in cost — bringing the device’s price point to $1499 for the most advanced model.

An unexpected price hike in manufacturing selfie cameras could impact the cost of the phone’s expected September 2022 release.

Apple executives have reportedly spurned a Chinese front-facing camera maker in favor of a South Korean maker.

The Korean division of IT News reported that the iPhone 14’s front camera parts cost three times as much as previous models.

Advanced features like autofocus are said to drive up the price of front-facing cameras.

Certainly, the increase in the cost of production of the front camera will be reflected in the price of the entire device.

Other exterior design changes could be on the agenda for the iPhone 14.

A decision by the European Union to reduce e-waste could force Apple to ditch its custom Lightning port charger in favor of a USB-C – although experts at PhoneArena don’t think the new regulations will apply to the iPhone 14.

Speculation has it that the rear-facing camera will sit flush with the iPhone 14’s back plate – but leaked photos of iPhone 14 shapes say otherwise.

Insiders also expect the iPhone 14 lineup to do without the iPhone Mini as Apple steers consumers who don’t need extra processing power towards the iPhone SE.

Apple, the second largest company in the world, is not immune to external economic factors affecting the company’s bottom line.

The war in Ukraine, inflation and COVID-19 shutdowns affecting the supply chain could force the company to increase the price of the device to offset lost sales.
