I’m a tech guy – this is why Apple SHOULD kill their Lightning cable and make us use new chargers

AN INDUSTRY expert rails against the iPhone charging cable and insists Apple switch to a more universally available cable.

The Lightning cable was introduced in 2012 with the release of the iPhone 5 – nine iPhones later, it’s still Apple’s choice of connector.

Steve Jobs’ philosophy for Apple was based on controlling the entire user experience.

Jobs wanted Apple programs to run on Apple devices powered by white Apple cables.

Unfortunately, the uniqueness of Apple’s Lightning cable has created a jumbled world of mismatched technologies where users of different devices cannot share chargers.

TechRadar US Editor-in-Chief Lance Ulanoff thinks the iPhone should be redesigned with a USB-C connector instead of the Lightning connector.

“If Apple unveils its first USB-C iPhone, followed by the iPad, you should embrace the change,” Ulanoff wrote.

“You’ll find that the cables you have for a variety of other devices made over the past five years will now work with your new iPhone.”

Several devices are currently powered via USB-C, including the Macbook Pro and other non-Apple tech tools.

The introduction of interchangeable parts will not only keep users happy on all platforms, but will also keep governments happy.

The European Union is working on an initiative that would force tech companies to introduce an interchangeable cord for all phones.

The purpose of the bill is to reduce e-waste and encourage shoppers to reuse cords from previous purchases.

“Having a common charging standard would be a common sense victory in the eyes of consumers,” an industry analyst told the BBC.

“This is a win, so get over it,” Ulanoff said, ending with the determination of a judge wielding a gavel.

Apple disagreed, saying the universal charger will hurt innovation.

Industry experts believe that Apple will introduce the iPhone with USB-C charging capabilities in about two years with the release of the iPhone 15 – but they could surprise us all and make USB-C a feature of the iPhone 14.
