A TACO Bell fan took drastic steps to get his favorite dish back on the menu.
A year after the Covid-19 pandemic, Chris Sandberg decided to turn his fitness journey into a TikTok challenge.
The 37-year-old started exercising every day starting in January 2021 and vowed to do so until Taco Bell brought back the Grilled Stuft Nacho.
Almost 500 days later, Sandberg lost about 87 pounds during his challenge.
“Because it’s TikTok, you can’t just lose weight, you have to turn it into a challenge,” he told Fox News. “I didn’t want the journey to be just a number on a scale.”
Sandberg added that he wanted to make the challenge fun and give himself a goal that he actually wanted.
“And for some reason, the first thing that came to my mind was the grilled piece of nacho, and I just ran with it.”
His first video was posted on January 4th, 2021 when he weighed around 275 pounds.
“Day one where we work out every day until Taco Bell brings back the Grilled Stuft Nacho,” he announced in the clip.
The video was captioned, “Do the right thing #tacobell.”
According to the Taco Bell Wiki, the Grilled Stuft Nacho was first introduced in 2013. It’s described as “a flour tortilla shaped like a nacho, stuffed with beef, cheesy jalapeno sauce, sour cream, and crunchy red stripes.”
Sandberg first tried the food just before it was discontinued and removed from the menus in 2015.
“It was the best thing I’ve ever had at Taco Bell,” he said. “And then I had it every day for a week.”
However, the food was eventually dropped from the menu at his local Taco Bell, and although it’s been around seven years since Sandberg’s first Grilled Stuft Nacho, he’s still thinking about it.
He claims the item is special because of the cheese and jalapeño sauce, which is “different” from the restaurant’s creamy Jalapeño sauce.
“I just didn’t let it go,” he said.
Over the years, Sandberg says, he’s lost hundreds of pounds — and gained them back — using various weight-loss methods.
During the pandemic, he started using TikTok and started making videos when “it kind of occurred to me that maybe I could lose the weight I’ve always had if I focused on my health as much as TikTok was talking about that.” To lose.”
Making the taco bell meal a part of his fitness goal not only brought humor to the trip, but also gave Sandberg something to focus on instead of his weight.
“The dichotomy of exercise and fast food is obviously very funny,” he said.
“The Grilled Stuft Nacho was amazing because it’s something that makes this trip fun for me,” he continued. “People who are struggling with weight, it’s a serious thing and it can be very difficult for people to get through. i know it was for me Allowing the process to be fun has been so helpful.”
Making travel fun gave him the ability to “maintain consistency” and prevent burnout.
“When something is funny and silly, you take yourself less seriously,” he said. “You can laugh a little bit more at yourself.”
