People often don’t get enough sleep to be at their best, Cowberry Home director Louise Rusk told The Sun.

“A good night’s sleep is essential to our well-being, productivity and livelihood,” Rusk said.

“Most of the time, we tend to sleep less than our bodies need, and that can affect our day-to-day performance.”

Most middle-aged people need at least seven hours, Rusk said, according to a study by Cambridge University and Fudan University in Shanghai.

To get your seven essential hours, it’s wise to follow Rusk’s three helpful tips for falling asleep.

“To make sure we hit the sweet spot of sleep, it’s important to develop a good nighttime routine,” Rusk told The Sun.

The sleep expert said preparing for the night’s rest is like preparing for a sacred ritual.

“Start by aligning your bedroom with thoughtful interior design and a color palette that promotes calm,” Rusk said.

You can apply the rules of “Feng Shui” to create a relaxing energy in your room.

“Bed is the gateway to the world of dreams, so make sure you’re sleeping on a comfortable mattress and that your linens are cozy and sleep-inducing,” Rusk said.

She recommended using linen bedding, which makes you feel like you’re on a “soft cloud.”

And finally, she said you should end your day with some indulgent activity to calm your mind.

“Before bedtime, light a candle and indulge in a self-care activity like meditation, journaling, or just listening to relaxing music,” Rusk said.

She said these tips set the right mood for the night and ensure you get the perfect amount of rest.

Louise Rusk is Director of Cowberry Home, a lifestyle brand focused on linen bedding.

According to Cowberry Home’s website, the brand “went in search of the finest natural materials to enhance a good night’s sleep and help balance a busy lifestyle with quality downtime.”
